Featured on covers and in numerous trade magazine articles, Mike is perhaps best known for his work on
this faux painted plane. To create the finish, Mike first primed then painted a base
coat prior to
applying the maple and mahogany wood grains.
To begin the project, the plane was stripped of existing paint then a prime coat was applied. |

Here a base coat of industrial enamel was applied. |
Mike is shown here applying a medium brown glaze which was then flogged with a flogging brush. |
Next a second glaze was applied and the mahogany grain formations were developed. |
Lastly a clear automotive urethane coat was applied. |
